A Brief History of the Suomi M31
Finland was at war with the Soviet Union from November 30, 1939 - March 13, 1940 (The Winter War) and again from June 25, 1941 - September 4, 1944 (The Continuation War).
The Winter War was mainly an outcome of the major political events taking place in Europe during the 1930s. Germany was loaded for bear and Hitler made it clear that Russia was in for an attitude adjustment. Until 1917 Finland and the Baltic States had been part of Russia for several generations and regardless of what the people thought, when Mother Russia said "jump", the people of Finland were expected to say “how high?”. Being naturally strong willed and physically imposing, the warriors of Finland prepared for a fight. A fight on their soil, in their homes.
War breaks out.
Faced with the Finnish intractability, the Soviet Union finally decided to take by force what it could not get through negotiations. On November 30, 1939 Russian troops entered Finland. The Suomi M31 is about to
become the great equalizer.
